2019 TOURNEE DU SUD Pinot Noir 75cl (Languedoc, France)
Style - Vibrant
Grape - Pinot Noir
Tasting - Sweet blueberry and cooked raspberry scents with a lovely bright zingy palate. Making good Pinot Noir under £15 is terribly hard work so hats off for this valiant and decent attempt.
FYI - What the blue blazes is Pinot Noir doing down here in the hot Languedoc region? Don't you know this is a fickle grape? A grape that is prone to throwing a hissy fit if its roots touch the wrong sort of limestone?
Well, yes, that would be the inner worried wine geek in us voicing its concerns. However the Languedoc is a vast area encompassing all sorts of altitudes, micro-climates, soils and winemakers. And there's a surprisingly large amount of Pinot Noir grown here. While it won't upset the Burgundian hierarchy it does make a useful weekday addition to the Pinot Noir file.
ABV - 13%
