2019 WEINGUT SCHMITGES Vom Roten Shiefer Kabinett 75cl (Mosel Valley, Germany)
Grape - Riesling
Tasting: We were just blown away by this riesling. An aniseed/herbaceous nose and the palate is like biting into a fresh, juicy white peach followed by a long finish. Off-dry and fruity in style but buffered by the undeniable greatness of the 2019 growing season.
FYI: Review from Mosel Fine Wine: "The 2019er Riesling Kabinett Vom roten Schiefer was made with fruit picked at 87° Oechsle from the Zeltinger Deutschherrenberg and was fermented down to fruity-styled levels of residual sugar (50 g/l). It offers an aromatic and ripe nose of Conference pear, yellow peach, mint, lemon, tangerine, kiwi, and spices. The wine coats the palate with juicy yellow fruits but also quite some zesty acidity, which adds to its playfulness. This fruity-styled wine develops the presence and impact of a Spätlese but leaves a nicely light and fresh feel in the finish."
