2018 DAMIEN LAUREAU Savennieres La Petite Roche 75cl (Loire Valley, France)
Grape: Chenin Blanc
Tasting: Rich white wine? Well kind of... Savennieres always plays the lime juice-meets flintstone acidity upfront but behind that initial abruptness lies a mellow core of ripe autumnal fruit glowing and redolent of cooked apple purée and pear skins. Chablis Grand Cru drinkers ought to be paying attention to these under-rated marvels.
FYI: Damien Laureau is, quietly and modestly, one of the great practitioners of conjuring soil-to-glass flavours out of Chenin Blanc.
