Grapes - 100% Carignan
Tasting - Year in, year out this retains the title of best value red for us. A big hit of sweet blueberry and wild scrubland herbs. Very much in the style of a Beaujolais Nouveau but made from the old champion vine of the south, Carignan, instead of Gamay.
FYI: Workhorse grape Carignan was largely responsible for the French wine lake in the 70s and 80s. In spite of that bad reputation and the subsequent vineyard uprooting that took place, these old vines are a prized resources these days.
