Champagne and Vintage Port
A lovely duo here; one to start, and one to finish, a perfect meal.
Champagne Jean Comyn is a small co-operative of eight vine growers based west of Epernay in the Marne Valley. A high proportion of Pinot Meunier grapes in this non-vintage blend ensures easy drinking charm. While the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay components of the blend bring freshness and depth. We've been importing this fabulous fizz for eight years now and it always pleases us how well liked it is.
We've all been there, the dangerous second wind around 10:30PM when someone shouts 'I've got some Port we could open'. You could be that person. Or you could be much more loved by your family and friends by opening this Warres Vintage 2000 Portwith a lunchtime wedge of Stilton too. A glass of Port at lunchtime is always a seriously special treat.
At twenty years old it's about time to start drinking this mighty Port, though it will definitely cruise along in bottle for decades to come too. A hearty dark concentrate of fig, prune, blackberry jam and aniseed with a velveteen texture that coats the mouth. Long, rich, dark and just downright delicious. Nothing else is quite like a proper vintage Port. Best decanted to remove the wine from its naturally forming sediment and consumed within four days of opening. Let us remind you that you do not have to be an aristocrat, possess a mansion or have a man-servant to be a Port drinker.
