Coming this autumn: A new kind of winery, right in the heart of London.
At Vagabond, we’ve never been ones to play it safe. So when we say we’re opening the UK’s largest urban winery, we mean it—6,000 square feet of barrels, bottles and bold ideas, coming soon to Canada Water.
It’s not just another bar. It’s a working winery. A place where grapes become great wine, and where guests can see it all unfold, tank by tank, glass by glass.
Wine, but make it immersive
Led by our brilliant head winemaker, José Quintana, the new site will take English winemaking to exciting new places—literally. Expect everything from experimental solera systems and striking concrete egg fermenters, to hands-on tastings and behind-the-scenes tours. Plus, of course, more than 100 wines by the glass from our signature self-pour wall.
It’s big. It’s ambitious. And it’s designed to connect people to wine in ways they’ve never seen before.
Why a winery? Why now?
“We’ve always believed wine is about connection,” says Vagabond MD Christobell Giles. “This space gives us the scale and setting to bring that vision to life—right in Zone 2, with unbeatable links across London.”
The winery will allow us to quadruple our English wine production and serve up to 300 guests a day. It also unlocks a brand new event space for our community—whether you’re into private tastings, curious about winemaking, or just fancy drinking something extraordinary in a genuinely one-of-a-kind setting.
Backed by belief (and a few million pounds)
This project is part of our wider journey to grow with soul. Thanks to a multi-million-pound investment from our parent company, Majestic Wine Group, the winery supports a bigger strategy: new sites (including St Paul’s and Liverpool Street this autumn), better systems, a brand new direct-to-consumer platform, and a CRM that helps us truly understand what makes our guests tick.
“This isn’t just a flagship venue,” says Majestic CEO John Colley. “It’s a central pillar of our long-term investment in English wine, in innovation, and in Vagabond’s mission to make wine fun, accessible and utterly un-beige.”
A new home for London wine lovers
The Canada Water winery will sit at the base of The Dock Shed—British Land’s striking new development that also houses the Canada Water Leisure Centre and brand-new homes and workspaces. We’re proud to be part of a neighbourhood with creativity, culture and community at its core.
As Alice Keown, British Land’s leasing director puts it: “Vagabond brings innovation, hospitality and a flagship cultural experience under one roof. It’s going to be something special.”
